High Quality Dried Gracilaria Seaweed

Gracilaria Sp is a type of Red Algae (Macro-Algae, Rhodophyta) and one of primary source of Polysaccharide, it has very long thin cylindrical thallus, slippery, and have brown or green-yellowish color, Gracilaria Sp have lateral branches like a hair with length around 25 to 30cm, thallus diameter between 0.5 to 1.5mm, this type of seaweed can be found around Java and Borneo. unlike Eucheuma Cottonii and Eucheuma Spinosum which is farmed at sea, Gracilaria Sp is farmed at ponds with salinity between 10 to 30ppt

We Provides High Quality Indonesia Seaweed Such as Cottonii, Gracilaria and Spinosum

Indonesia is the largest producer of seaweeds worldwide, Indonesia has 54720km length coastline (the third longest worldwide) and around 13700 islands, it is also located between Pacific and Indian ocean and receive full sun light daily making it suitable for farming seaweeds

Our company has the advantage from geographical position, combined with our knowledge about seaweeds market, product, regulation, safety prochedure, we can make sure you will only get top of the line products

Polysaccharides is a type carbohydrates (beside monosaccharides and disaccharides) that are naturally occurs, They are long chains of carbohydrate molecules, composed of several smaller monosaccharides. These complex bio-macromolecules functions as an important source of energy in animal cell and form a structural component of a plant cell. It can be a homopolysaccharide or a heteropolysaccharide depending upon the type of the monosaccharides. Polysaccharides can be a straight chain of monosaccharides known as linear polysaccharides, or it can be branched known as a branched polysaccharide.

It has the following characteristics :

  • 1. They are not sweet in taste.
  • 2. Many are insoluble in water.
  • 3. They are hydrophobic in nature.
  • 4. They do not form crystals on desiccation.
  • 5. Can be extracted to form a white powder.
  • 6. They are high molecular weight carbohydrates.
  • 7. Inside the cells, they are compact and osmotically inactive.
  • 8. They consist of hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen. The hydrogen to oxygen ratio being 2:1.

Gracilaria Sp farming are done at pond with 10 ppt to 30 ppt salinity, at 20 ppt, the growth rate of Gracilaria was higher than that of 10 ppt and 30 ppt salinity, but 30 ppt offer better survival rate compared with 20 ppt and 10 ppt.

Because the nature of Gracilaria Sp for being farms at pond, Water Hyacinth can be introduced at the pond to reduce water contamination, this is the most common technique to increase water quality, but at larger scale Water Hyacinth might block sunlights affecting seaweed growth rate, therefore placement of Water Hyacinth must be carefully controlled.

The most common practice for drying Gracilaria Sp is by placing the seaweeds on top of terpaulin or bamboo bed, terpaulin enabling heat to be evenly distributed, while bamboo bed allows some freshly harvested seaweed to drip their water content onto the ground.

Both drying method introduce less impurities, our Gracilaria Sp products are expected to have impurities lower than 2% to follows european market common practice

Unlike Eucheuma Cottonii or Eucheuma Spinosum, Gracilaria Sp are usually extracted for it's polysaccharide, pollysacharide is long chain of polymeric carbohydrate which is used to create Agar (E406), Agar mostly used for manufacturing Jelly or Yoghurt.

Polysaccarides also can be converted to bio-ethanol through hydrolisis process, there has been several research this can be done using Gracilaria Sp, it is estimated that algae based biofuel will reach 11.37 Billion USD with Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) at around 8.8%.

Dried Gracilaria Seaweed Specification

In order to achive safety and compliance with regulatory body, we're employing several standard to maintain our products safety parameters ranging from chemical and physical such as European Commission (EC231:2012) guidelines and CEVA (Centre d'Étude et de Valorisation des Algues) guidelines
